This was taken by Racing Post snapper Patrick McCann as a profile shot for the 2015 HWPA Derby Awards, when I was one of four nominees for Racing Writer of the Year (UK & Ireland). I had no luck but hey, it was Alastair Down. Patrick won best photo, and given he suffered a broken leg for the shot, that was fair enough.
